Ryanne Kap is a Chinese-Canadian writer and academic from Strathroy, Ontario. Her work has been featured in Grain, carte blanche, long con, and elsewhere. Her short story “Heat” won first place in Grain’s 2020 Short Grain contest, was nominated by Grain for the 2020 Journey Prize, and was selected as a notable pick in the 2021 edition of Best Canadian Short Stories. Her debut chapbook, “goodbye, already,” was published by Frog Hollow Press in 2021. Ryanne holds a B.A. (Honours, with distinction) in English and creative writing from the University of Toronto Scarborough (2020) and an M.A. in English from Western University (2021). She is also the managing editor at The Puritan.

BIOGRAPHY

I’m a Chinese-Canadian writer and academic with an MA in English from Western University (2021). I also hold a B.A. (Honours, with distinction) in English from the University of Toronto Scarborough (2020), where I was the co-winner of the Jasun Singh Memorial Prize in Creative Writing.

My academic interests include adoption studies, pop culture studies, and Asian . My most recent research project examines the depiction of imperial trauma in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
